Larry Arias

Larry Alfonso Arias, Esq. has been teaching at Mercy University for over 20 years.  Professor Arias is currently teaching Family Law and has taught many courses in the Legal Studies/Paralegal Program such as Substantive Law and Document Drafting, Criminal Court Process, Business Law, and Evidence. 

His teaching objective is to seek to impart marketable skills and knowledge using law courses to sharpen his students' thinking that prepares them to make a positive impact in whatever field they choose. He seeks to encourage his students to build personal, professional, and social networks to fuel their individual and career success.  To this end, he co-hosts end-of-semester networking get togethers for commuter and residential students.

Larry works as a Hearing Officer for the Department of Education, while keeping a solo private practice. He is also an Internal Family Systems Level III practitioner.  

In his spare time, he enjoys swimming, bike riding, and is an avid Salsa dancer. Larry's family were refugees from the Dominican Republic. He was born, raised, resides and works in The Bronx, New York.

Larry was awarded an Honorary Masters Degree of Pedagogy from Mercy University in 2024.  

He was admitted to practice law in New York and the Southern and Eastern Federal District Courts in 1995.
