Adjusting from a high school to a college environment can be challenging under the most typical of circumstances. Now, imagine if English is not your first language.
How do you communicate with your professors and classmates? How can you focus on your studies? How do you prepare for careers after college?
Mercy College’s Center for Academic Excellence and Innovation (CAEI) offers free weekly workshops so that students who are not native speakers of English gain the lessons and skills they need to succeed on campus and in life. Yuna Lee ’19 expressed how visiting the workshops on a regular basis during her time at Mercy has helped her communicate with professors and with potential employers in job interviews. She called the workshops a “hidden secret,” and the newfound confidence she and her peers show is palpable.
