Mercy College’s Executive Director for Campus Safety & Emergency Management Konrad Motyka has been elected to the board of the Northeast Colleges and Universities Security Association (NECUSA) as a director-at-large. NECUSA, established in 1953, is the oldest campus law enforcement organization in the United States and is made up of more than 40 members representing a broad range of educational institutions in the Northeast.
Mercy College, with Motyka as the College’s representative, has been a member of NECUSA for four years–since the start of Motyka’s employment at Mercy. He considers the organization a valuable professional development resource that ensures members are up to speed on the latest United States Department of Education rules and regulations, as well as the latest higher education campus safety and security trends.
“The organization is tremendously beneficial to its members in terms of professional development, training and networking,” Motyka explained. “I am pleased to have been elected to a leadership role to help advance NECUSA so that the organization continues to accomplish its goals and thrive, and security professionals are able to benefit from its proactive educational, outreach and support services.”
Most recently, Motyka attended a conference organized by NECUSA on the topic of mental health in higher education. Experts from the mental health field, United States Department of Education, and third-party vendors specializing in diversity and equity training spoke at the conference which took place at Connecticut College. With many colleges and universities having to address mental health crises, the conference provided attendees with crucial information about how to meet and respond to students’ needs from a public safety standpoint.
Motyka’s election to the NECUSA board demonstrates his commitment to the campus safety and securities professional community and the organization’s recognition of his contributions to the field.
