Mercy College is excited to name Lloyd G. Gibson, D.Sc., as the new Dean of the School of Business.
Gibson has spent his career in academia and business. He comes to Mercy from the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business at the University of Bridgeport (UB) where he served as Dean from 2012 to 2018. Previously, he served as Dean of Education and Campus Dean at Stratford University as well as the Director of the MBA Program at Seton Hill University. Gibson also enjoyed a successful 28-year career in the banking industry, which included 14 years as president and CEO of three different community banks — one of which was publicly traded. His banking experience also includes two successful turnarounds of problem banks, the most recent during his tenure as president and CEO of New Asia Bank.
“I’m honored to join Mercy College,” says Dr. Gibson. “The School of Business does an outstanding job of preparing students to become business leaders, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead the school in a period of growth. The future is bright — both for Mercy and for our students.”
“We are excited to welcome Dr. Gibson to Mercy College and the School of Business,” said Dr. José Herrera, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “Dr. Gibson brings a wealth of business knowledge to our College and we are confident his experiences will further our mission and commitment to our students.”
Under Gibson’s leadership at UB, the School of Business continually added, updated and revised its degree programs. New programs included a fully online MBA program and new master’s programs in analytics and finance. Gibson also implemented a collaborative undergraduate finance program with a university in Hangzhou, China and a collaborative master’s program with the largest business school in Casablanca, Morocco.
Before joining UB, Gibson served as the Dean of Education and Campus Dean at Stratford University in Falls Church, Virginia where he was responsible for the academic oversight of 32 programs. He also worked at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, Pennsylvania where he held multiple roles, including Director of the MBA Program and Assistant Professor of Business. In addition to serving as the Chair of the Farrell Initiative for Entrepreneurship, Gibson has been an active leader and participant in many community organizations, including the Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation, the United Way in Pittsburgh, and the Mahoning Valley Food Bank. He plans to continue his community involvement at Mercy College.
Gibson holds a Doctor of Science in Information Systems and Communications from Robert Morris University; an MBA in Finance and Public Management from the Wharton School; and a combined B.S./M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh. He and his wife, Dr. Regina Gibson, are excited to become members of the Mercy community.
