Mercy Film Professor’s Course on Hitchcock Reels Students to the Alamo Drafthouse

Steven DeRosa, professor of film at Mercy College, was recently featured in an article in Westchester Magazine commending his course on Alfred Hitchcock and its partnership with the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Yonkers. The course, Hitchcock Disciples, was introduced in the fall 2017 semester and has offered students the immersion of studying the filmmaker’s works in the theater.

DeRosa, a published author and collaborator with others in the field, said he believes media studies to be more important than ever in a media-dominated culture: “We consume media daily — at home, at work, and on-the-go through our devices. It's vital to have an understanding of its meaning, how it's created, and how it can influence society. The Media Studies program here at Mercy College allows students to choose a concentration in either journalism, TV and radio production or film studies. My role in the Film & Culture concentration, is to guide students through discussions of the art of film and how it is used to enrich people’s lives, to grapple with and illuminate contemporary issues, and, of course, entertain.”
