Mercy SHNS Dean Becomes Co-Editor: 4th Edition of Cognition, Occupation, and Participation Across the Lifespan

Congratulations to School of Health and Natural Sciences Dean Joan Toglia, PhD, OTR, FAOTA, who recently co-edited the 4th edition of Cognition, Occupation, and Participation Across the Lifespan along with Noomi Katz, PhD, OTR professor and director of the Research Authority of Ono Academic College, Israel.  Dr. Toglia also authored or co-authored four chapters within the book focusing on executive functions, self-awareness, and intervention.  Over 35 researchers and authors contributed to 27 chapters including Dr. Kathleen Golisz, Associate Dean, who co-authored a chapter on ethical considerations for people with cognitive limitations.   This comprehensive new edition of a best-seller examines current neuroscience evidence and occupational therapy best practices for working with clients across the lifespan who experience cognitive challenges.  Dr. Toglia stated, "The book moves beyond  the traditional focus of cognitive rehabilitation for persons with acquired brain injury. It Illustrates that optimization of executive functions is important for the management and promotion of health or wellbeing and improved life outcomes across the lifespan for those with and without specific health conditions".

In addition to her role at Mercy College, Dr. Toglia holds a clinical research appointment in the Rehabilitation Medicine Department at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. As an educator, researcher, and clinician, she is recognized internationally as a leader in the rehabilitation of persons with cognitive perceptual impairments.
